Truth Vs. Honesty

I always felt that they were two different things. For example, a man who is deeply in love with a woman, may honestly believe that she is the most beautiful creature in the world. She may be an absolute Jabba the Hutt in truth, but he is being honest when he says she is beautiful. Or someone who is told something like "menthol cigarettes are made out of fiberglass!" The truth is menthol is the extract of the mint leaf, but people who don't know any better actually believe, and are therefore being honest when they say, it's fiberglass.
This is why truth detector machines are inadmissible in court, they are, really, honesty meters. Someone may honestly believe they are innocent. In fact, one can convince oneself of just about anything. If A man walks in on his wife humping another man, he may very well convince himself that he did nothing wrong when he killed her, and could very well pass a lie detector test.
So whats the point? The point is that you can be honest, without necessarily being truthful. There is a difference.
